ATOMIC
QUANTUM SYSTEMS
University of Birmingham
We are an experimental research group in the School of Physics and Astronomy and the Centre for Human Brain Health (CHBH) at the University of Birmingham.
We use lasers to cool, trap and manipulate atoms. We can reach temperatures as low as just a few billionths of a degree above the absolute zero, and observe fascinating phenomena such as Bose-Einstein condensation, quantum mechanical motion, and strong coupling between light and matter.
We are interested in exporing the physics that governs matter in the quantum regime and to exploit the exceptional properties of quantum systems for applications in quantum simulations, quantum thermodynamics, quantum technologies and fundamental physics.
